The Top 14 Frequently Asked Questions
Please skim through all of these FAQs – they are the questions we consistently get from clients, starting with the most frequent.
I haven't worked since my accident and I need money. Can my lawyer give me an "advance" against my expected settlement?
No. It is unethical for any lawyer to lend his client money as an "advance" against the expected settlement.
A local lawyer found out about my accident and called me to offer to represent me in my case. Should I hire him?
No. Unless the lawyer has already represented you in another matter, for a lawyer to call you to solicit you as a client is highly unethical. Any such lawyer should be reported to the Board of Bar Overseers at 617-728-8700.
Moreover, the insurance companies who handle these claims usually have a pretty good idea of which lawyers are engaging in such unethical tactics and usually treat those lawyers’ clients accordingly. You are likely to have much better results being represented by an attorney with a solid reputation.
