The field of personal injury law includes many types of claims. Injuries for which we have obtained compensation for our clients include everything from minor sprains, strains, and “whiplash” to serious fractures, burns, amputations, brain injury, and death.

Injuries like these can happen in all sorts of situations. Here are some of the major categories:

Auto Accidents

Including car crashes, car/bicycle collisions, car/pedestrian accidents, motorcycle accidents, injuries or death caused by drunk drivers, commercial driver’s liability, negligent design of highways and intersections, etc.

Premises Liability/Slip & Fall

This injury category includes falls caused by ice and snow, defective stairways, loose railings, improperly maintained common areas in apartment and condominium buildings, potholes or dangerously uneven surfaces in parking lots and driveways, wet/slippery floors, foreign substances or tripping hazards on floors in commercial buildings, inadequate lighting hiding other dangerous conditions, falling merchandise in stores, building collapses, lead paint injuries, inadequate security, etc.

Liquor Liability/Drunk Driving

Often a bar, restaurant, or social host can be held liable for contributing to drunk-driving crashes by over-serving alcohol to drivers.

Medical Errors

As many as 200,000 to 400,000 people are killed every year by preventable mistakes in hospitals alone. Countless more are injured by hospitals, or injured or killed by mistakes made by doctors outside of hospitals. Medical errors can include such things as negligently performed surgery, delayed diagnosis or failure to diagnose, delayed treatment, treating the “wrong” condition, operating on the wrong body part, mishandling child birth, prescribing the wrong medication, pharmacists filling a prescription incorrectly, and abuse or neglect in a nursing home.

Medical Products That Cause Harm

Examples include drugs such as Vioxx, Baycol, Ephedra, Fen-Phen, Lotronex, Propulsid, Rezulin, and Zyprexa; Baxter Dialysis; faulty hernia repair “mesh”; and certain implants such as Sulzer hip implants and knee implants, Zirconia Ceramic implants

Product Liability

Poorly designed or defectively manufactured products and tools can cause serious injury or death. These include power tools and machines with inadequate guarding; faulty electrical appliances that cause fire; contaminated food products causing bodily injury or food poisoning; defective bicycles or components; other consumer products that cause injury; dangerous toys causing choking or other injury; furniture that collapses; flammable fabrics in children’s clothing, etc.

 Workplace Injuries

You may be entitled to more than just Workers’ Compensation for injuries suffered on the job. This could be anything from being in a car crash while making a delivery for your employer to suffering permanent nerve damage from exposure to toxic fumes where you work. There are too many possibilities to list, so if you have any sort of work-related injury or illness, call us to find out if you have a claim.

Injuries by Animals

State laws vary greatly, but generally people injured by animals, especially dogs and unusual types of pets, can make a claim against the animal’s owner. It doesn’t have to be an attack ‒ even a friendly dog knocking down a visitor makes the dog’s owner responsible for resulting injuries.

Social Security Disability and Private Long-Term Disability Insurance Claims

Almost everyone who applies for Social Security Disability without being represented by a lawyer gets denied. If you are disabled for any reason, by injury or illness, you may qualify.

Professional Negligence

Errors by professionals can cause serious injury or death. Negligent design of roads, intersections, and traffic lighting can lead to fatal crashes. So can improperly done auto repairs.
